MBE Score Transfers
Examinees who take a bar exam that includes the MBE may be able to transfer their MBE score to another jurisdiction. If you would like to have your MBE score transferred, follow these steps:
Step 1: Determine if the jurisdiction to which you are seeking admission accepts transferred MBE scores. Additionally, check with the jurisdiction about any conditions it imposes. If the jurisdiction accepts transferred MBE scores, proceed to Step 2.
Step 2: Determine if the jurisdiction where you took the MBE (the testing jurisdiction) authorizes NCBE to transfer its MBE scores. If it does, follow the instructions below to request an Official Bar Exam Score Transcript. If it does not, contact the testing jurisdiction to have your score transferred.
To request an Official Bar Exam Score Transcript, log in to your NCBE Account or create an NCBE Account if you do not have one, go to the Score Services page, and select Request Bar Exam Score Service. Transcripts include all MBE scores earned during the last seven years (when authorized by the testing jurisdiction), as well as all scores earned on the legacy UBE and/or NextGen UBE.
Score transfer requests for the October 2020 remote exam must be submitted directly to the testing jurisdiction; do not submit an NCBE score services request.
Official Bar Exam Score Transcripts are sent directly to jurisdictions, not to examinees. If you would like to review your MBE score, view your Unofficial NCBE Exam History on the Score Services page of your NCBE Account.
Note: Some jurisdictions do not permit the release of MBE scaled scores to examinees. If you took the MBE in one of those jurisdictions, your Unofficial NCBE Exam History will include a Score Advisory note in the MBE Scaled Score column. The MBE Score Advisory is designed to let you know if your score meets or exceeds one of the following scaled score values: 133, 145, or 150. This advisory is solely for your personal use, does not include your actual score, and is not shared with jurisdictions for transfer purposes. It is only available if your testing jurisdiction does not release scores and does not authorize NCBE to do so.
To see your MBE Score Advisory, first determine if your testing jurisdiction authorizes NCBE to perform score advisories, then request an Unofficial Bar Exam Score Transcript: log in to your NCBE Account or create an NCBE Account if you do not have one, go to the Score Services page, and select Request Bar Exam Score Service. The transcript will include your MBE Score Advisories or scores earned during the last seven years (when authorized by the testing jurisdiction), as well as all scores earned on the legacy UBE and/or NextGen UBE.
Unofficial Bar Exam Score Transcripts are posted to the examinee's NCBE Account Document Center.
Fee
A $30 fee is required for an Official Bar Exam Score Transcript or an Unofficial Bar Exam Score Transcript. The fee may be paid online by credit card (MasterCard or Visa only).
Payment by check must be mailed to NCBE with a printout of the confirmation page at the end of the score services request form and may significantly delay the processing of your request. No score services will be performed until credit card information is processed or until a check is received with a printout of the confirmation page.
Refunds will not be provided for any reason. It is your responsibility to read these instructions carefully before requesting any score services and to verify that you have provided the correct information in your request.
Time Frame
Ordinarily, requests are processed the next business day after receipt of payment. Scores and score advisories will not appear on transcripts until after the testing jurisdiction has announced its examination results and authorized release of your score or score advisory information. Unofficial Bar Exam Score Transcripts are stored in the NCBE Account Document Center for a maximum of 90 days. Candidates are encouraged to download and save the release within that time frame to avoid having to purchase another transcript.
Maximum Age of MBE Scores
Each jurisdiction sets its own maximum age policy; however, NCBE performs score services only for MBE scores that are seven years old or less. If your score is older than seven years, check with your testing jurisdiction to determine if your score is available from the jurisdiction; if your score is not available from your testing jurisdiction, check with the jurisdiction to which you are seeking admission for instructions about how to proceed.
