2017 Bar Examination and Admission Statistics

The 2017 Statistics, as published in NCBE's Bar Examiner magazine, are available as a PDF download.

Data are supplied by the jurisdictions for the number of and passage rates of examinees in the following categories:

  • Persons taking the bar examination, both overall and by source of legal education
  • First-time exam takers and repeaters, both overall and for graduates of ABA-approved law schools
  • Graduates of non-ABA law schools by type of school
  • Persons taking Attorney's Examinations
  • Disbarred or suspended attorneys taking and passing examinations as a condition of reinstatement

Also included are the following:

  • A 10-year summary of bar passage rates, both overall and for first-time exam takers
  • A five-year snapshot, by jurisdiction, of the number of persons admitted to the bar by examination, by transferred Uniform Bar Examination (UBE) score, and on motion
  • A graphical representation for the calendar year, by jurisdiction, of admissions to the bar by examination, by transferred UBE score, and on motion
  • A five-year snapshot, by jurisdiction, of the number of individuals first licensed as foreign legal consultants
  • National data for the Multistate Bar Examination (MBE) and the Multistate Professional Responsibility Examination (MPRE)
  • Use by jurisdiction for the MBE, the MPRE, the Multistate Essay Examination (MEE), and the Multistate Performance Test (MPT)
  • Jurisdictions administering the Uniform Bar Examination (UBE) and the minimum passing score by UBE jurisdiction
  • UBE scores earned and transferred by jurisdiction for the calendar year
