How can I find out the requirements for admission by transferred UBE score?

You may wish to review Chart 10 in the Comprehensive Guide to Bar Admission Requirements for a general guide.  You should contact the bar admissions authority in the jurisdiction to which you seek admission for specific information and to verify that the information in Chart 10 is up to date.

Which jurisdictions currently accept UBE scores?

All jurisdictions that administer the UBE accept transferred scores. Jurisdictions may begin accepting transferred UBE scores prior to or after their first administration of the UBE. The following jurisdictions currently accept transferred UBE scores earned in another jurisdiction: Alabama, Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming.

How can I find out whether a UBE jurisdiction requires completion of a jurisdiction-specific component (a separate test, course, or some combination of the two) prior to admission?

For a general guide, review Chart 6 in the Comprehensive Guide to Bar Admission Requirements. You should contact the bar admissions authority in the jurisdiction to which you seek admission for specific information and to verify that the information in Chart 6 is up to date.

How can I find out if a particular jurisdiction is considering adopting the UBE?

You may contact the bar admissions authority in the jurisdiction to ask if the UBE is under consideration. Contact information for jurisdictions can be found on the Bar Admission Offices Directory on the home page.

If I transfer my UBE score to another UBE jurisdiction, do I have to complete the character and fitness process again?

Yes. Each jurisdiction makes its own character and fitness decisions. You must complete the application forms and meet the admission requirements, including approval of your character and fitness, as determined by the jurisdiction to which you transfer a UBE score.

Can I take the UBE in a jurisdiction in which I am not seeking admission to the bar but where it is most convenient for me to take the exam?

Administering and grading the examination uses the jurisdiction’s resources, so it is for each UBE jurisdiction to decide whether it will allow persons who are not seeking admission there to sit for the examination.
